A card that catches the light

Foil does something ink can't: it shines when the card moves. These cards are finished with a matt soft-touch laminate, which feels velvety in the hand, then foiled on one side in copper, gold, red or silver. Choose the standard 85 × 55mm or a 55mm square, on 350gsm or 400gsm board. Foil files are more technical than most, so the check matters here. A real person checks your artwork before anything is printed.

Artwork made easy

Every order includes a free artwork check by a real person — you don't need to ask. If we spot a problem, we'll contact you before anything gets printed.

Build your artwork in two parts: your normal CMYK card design, and a separate foil layer made of solid vector shapes showing exactly where the foil goes. Keep foil at least 3mm from the trim edge, and don't foil text smaller than 10pt or lines thinner than 1pt. Supply a CMYK PDF at 300dpi with 3mm bleed and fonts outlined. Frequently asked questions

What foil colours are available?

Four: copper, gold, red and silver. You choose one colour per order, and it is applied to one side of the card.

How do I set up the foil artwork?

As a separate layer of solid vector shapes placed exactly where you want foil. Everything else is your normal CMYK card design. Keep foil at least 3mm in from the edges. If you would rather not build it yourself, send us your design and we'll set up the foil file.

Can I foil small text or fine lines?

Keep foil to 10pt text and 1pt lines or larger. Foil can't hold perfect register on very fine detail, so it works best on logos, names and bolder shapes.

What sizes and boards can I choose?

85 × 55mm or a 55mm square, on 350gsm Uncoated, 350gsm Recycled Silk or 400gsm Silk art board, with square or rounded corners.

Is the laminate on both sides?

You choose. Matt soft-touch laminate can go on both sides or on one side only.

How long do they take?

Choose Saver (9 working days), Standard (6) or Express (4) when you order. That is production time and doesn't include delivery.
