Our position
Printlogik Ltd aims to conduct business in an environmentally and socially responsible manner, and to reduce the impact of what we produce wherever we practically can.
We would rather describe what we actually do than make claims we cannot stand behind. Everything below is something we can evidence or attribute. Where a claim is a supplier's rather than ours, we say so.
Paper and board
We specify FSC-certified stocks from our paper merchants wherever the job and the customer's budget allow. Certified stock is sourced from responsibly managed forests, and in our experience also gives a better print result - fewer imperfections, smoother sheets and more consistent colour.
Printlogik is not itself FSC chain-of-custody certified. That means we can buy and use certified stock, but we cannot apply the FSC label or make an FSC claim on your finished printed work. If your project needs a certified FSC claim on the printed item, tell us and we will arrange production through a certified partner.
We think it is worth being clear about this, because the distinction is often blurred in our industry.
Plates and water
The majority of our production uses Advance Plate Technology, a plate system engineered for short-run commercial printing. Its manufacturer states it substantially reduces water consumption compared with conventional plate processing. That figure is the manufacturer's, not an independently audited measurement of our own operation.
Inks
We use vegetable-based inks as standard in our normal production processes, in place of mineral oil based inks.
We are often asked whether our printing is vegan. Our standard inks are, but we have not verified the full supply chain for every coating, laminate, adhesive and finishing material we might use on a given job, so we do not claim our finished products are vegan. If that matters for your project, tell us and we will check the specific materials for your job before we quote.
Packaging
Printed work is despatched in recycled cardboard packaging.
Print A Tree
Every order we print plants trees through our Print A Tree programme.
Because the numbers change constantly, we publish current figures - trees planted, partners, and where they are going - on the programme's own page rather than restating them here, where they would fall out of date:
printlogik.co.uk/pages/print-a-tree-projectWaste and compliance
We segregate and recycle paper and board waste from production, and we work to meet applicable UK environmental legislation and the requirements of our suppliers and certification bodies.
Where we are not there yet
We are a small business and we do not have a fully audited carbon account, a certified environmental management system, or verified supply chain data for every material we use. We are not going to claim otherwise.
What we can commit to is specifying the better option where it exists, being straight about the difference between what we do and what our suppliers do, and reviewing this policy annually.
Review
This policy is reviewed annually, or sooner if our processes or suppliers change materially. Questions to support@printlogik.co.uk.
